The role of pessimism in your life
How do you define pessimism?
Pessimism is a negative mental attitude that makes you believe that the world is bad and will always pull up the worst aspects of life for you to experience. It is a kind of delusion making you concentrate and experience the worst part of anything that you involve in.
Is pessimism bad? Does it have any negative effects on your lifestyle?
All About Pessimism:
Being antagonistic to optimism might pull you down in various aspects of your life. As a person, you feel deprived of your decisions and wiped away with the gushing flow of time. The mental attitude of being pessimistic has both negative and positive side effects and there exist several ways in which pessimism can rule you:
1. The Subdued Confidence:
Pessimism predominates when it finds that there exists no way for confidence to thrive in. The lost confidence to stand by your thoughts and your side is the core thing that your inner self expects. Sliding down under the turbulence of the sturdy water should no more be the situation. Seek your inner potential and confidence.
2. The Abandoned Inner strength:
Our inner strength doesn't necessarily need to be absorbed by watching inspiring videos, paying attention to motivational podcasts, surfing valuable quotes online, awing at every success story. Inner strength needs your self-attention. The ability to sense your true potential and feelings.
The thing which you avoid mostly might be the thing that baffles you.
The paradoxical belief:
Some people firmly believe that pessimistic thoughts propel towards beautiful endings. Having this belief is a way to save your life. As stated by Mark Manson in his very famous book, "The Subtle Art Of Not Giving a Fuck"
The desire for a more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And; paradoxically, the acceptance of one's negative experience is itself a positive experience.
This paradoxical belief has its own specific term called, 'Defensive Pessimism'.
Pessimism can be a defence mechanism for you to embrace reality and not rely on hopes and promises. At times these false hopes invade our selves and fill us with numerous expectations that we don't want to be a nightmare. This attitude strikes us hard with the reality, that we haven't got ourselves prepared to face.
Consider the situation of a badly ill tuberculosis patient and which mindset you think he should adopt? In that situation being optimistic can be a boon or bane to him with the level of his mindset or the vision he has of the world. He could either assume that he is going to be fine by sticking to optimistic thoughts like great things take time or accept him as the way he is. But often he tries to comfort him as much as he could but he won't be ready to acknowledge the fact that his condition would no longer return back to his normal state. In this case, being pessimistic gives you a hand. As you will be aware your declining health has nothing left to take you so long in the lifeboat. Here, you can let pessimism defend you to the top-notch.
3. The Beeping cynicism:
Cynicism - the attitude or mentality of the people where one distrusts people and seeks/believes no true love exists.
Being a cynic, you tend to hate society, people and eventually the whole world. Cynicism and pessimism are entirely different things but a tiny negative deviation from the existing negative vision drives to the former or latter. People remain cynical just because they lost trust in someone either in relationships or the workspace. That bitter experience sort of creates a boundary around them preventing them from being tattered again. Because none of us needs to be broken. That extra care towards their own self drives them to this view. But sticking with this attitude on everyone is quite absurd.
The world is not as you see what it is. A little self-love garnished with the essence of love for others tastes great.
4. Encountering the worst aspects in a continuum:
Some people believe that only negative thoughts exist in this world just by experiencing a sequence of bad things to various extents. This is like waking up every night and sleeping in the morn and complaining that the world is dark.
Not only do those people are blindfolded towards appreciating little great things in life but also miss each happy moment of their life. Focus on the good and not the bad. If you encounter a series of good things, do you have the habit of appreciating and being grateful for those moments? Most of us don't, because we are that focused on the half-empty glass other than appreciating the half-full.
Conclusion:
Being pessimistic is not that bad until you remain to be that in all aspects.
